Tune into this webinar to learn about cable modeling. We will demonstrate the methods available, discuss potential pitfalls, and validate the results using a standardized three-core lead-sheathed XLPE HVAC submarine cable at 220 kV.
Although the example is a submarine cable, many of the topics we will discuss apply to terrestrial cables as well, including:
- The cross-sectional potential distribution, effect of the screens, development of AC charging currents, and overall capacitive analysis of the cable
- The magnetic field distribution, current distribution (skin and proximity effects), and overall inductive analysis of the cable
- The temperature distribution, heat flux, temperature- and frequency-dependent resistive properties (AC resistance), and overall thermal analysis of the cable
- Methods for including armor twist; phase twist (Milliken conductors); and different bonding types (solid bonding, single-point bonding, and cross bonding)
