Surface-to-surface radiation plays a major role in several use cases. The accuracy of a thermal radiation model is tightly related to the description of the surface properties. For example, surface and transparency properties may be wavelength or temperature dependent. Surface characteristics can also affect how radiation reflects: While matte surfaces reflect radiation diffusely, shining surfaces reflect radiation specularly.
In this webinar, you will learn how to identify use cases where thermal radiation is an important contributing factor to heat transfer and how to confirm it using numerical simulation. We will show, in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software, how to simulate surface-to-surface radiation and how diffuse and mixed diffuse-specular surfaces can be defined. In addition, we will demonstrate how the temperature and wavelength dependency of radiative properties can be described to set up high-fidelity models.
