Generator in 3D
Application ID: 462
This model is a static 3D simulation of a generator having a rotor with permanent magnets. The center of the rotor consists of annealed medium carbon steel, which is a nonlinear ferromagnetic material that is saturated at high magnetic flux densities.
The core is surrounded by several blocks of a permanent magnet made of samarium and cobalt, creating a strong magnetic field. The stator is made of the same nonlinear material as the center of the rotor, confining the field in closed loops through the winding.
The model calculates the static magnetic fields inside and around the generator, where the nonlinearity of the magnetic material is modeled using an interpolation function.

The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on the physics interfaces that define it. Particular physics interfaces may be common to several products (see the Specification Chart for more details). To determine the right combination of products for your project, you should evaluate all of your needs in light of each product's capabilities, consultation with the COMSOL Sales and Support teams, and the use of an evaluation license.
